The Helmholtz Center Hereon took part again this year. The Geomar from Kiel (Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research), the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) and Green-Screen-Naturfilmfestival, together with the Helmholtz Center Hereon, formed the stand for Schleswig-Holstein. Many members of the public came to find out about the research. This year, the Helmholtz Center Hereon was represented at the Schleswig-Holstein stand with the topics “Research for sustainable mobility” and “Research ship Coriolis”.

On the subject of “Research for sustainable mobility”, the car made of magnesium components has aroused the interest of many people. The special thing about the car is the lightness of magnesium compared to aluminum. Magnesium is a third lighter than aluminum and therefore emits less CO2 into the environment.

Visitors were able to see what the research ship Coriolis, which is currently under construction, will look like. The future rooms were also shown here. The ship is currently still being built at the Hitzler Werft shipyard in Lauenburg. The christening will take place in November.
