Sediment Transport and Morphodynamics

Continental margins are constantly changing their shape through erosion and sediment deposition. The morphological change in turn influences the overlying medium, e.g. air, water and biota. As a result, such dynamic interactions lead to permanent transformations at both physical and biogeochemical levels. In terms of climate protection and sustainable coastal development, the “Sediment Transport and Morphodynamics” department studies in detail the interactions between morphodynamics, ecosystem functions and biogeochemistry. The novelty of our approach is hybrid modeling: process-based models combined with artificial intelligence.
