German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS)

GEMS-Logo Zuschnitt

The German Engineering Materials Science Centre, GEMS is a central user access platform, where the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon provides a worldwide unique infrastructure for complementary research with photons and neutrons. Instruments using synchrotron radiation are operated at the outstation at DESY in Hamburg and instruments using neutrons are located at the outstation at the FRM II in Garching near Munich.

Photons: P07 - HEMS Photons: P07 - HEMS

The High Energy Materials Science Beamline HEMS at PETRA III enables diffraction and microtomography studies in the energy range of 30 up to 200 keV. more

Photons: P05 - IBL

Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon takes active part in the PETRA III project by operating and funding the Imaging Beam Line (IBL). This beamline is optimized for micro and nano tomography applications. more more

Photons: P61A - WINE

The P61 A - Beamline for White Beam Engineering Materials Science (WINE) is designed for the combination of Energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction (ED-XRD), Angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction (AD-XRD) and Imaging techniques (radiography/absorption contrast). more more

Photons: P03 - Nanofocus endstation

The Nanofocus endstation at DESY beamline P03 is dedicated to scanning X-ray nanodiffraction experiments which provide structural information with sub-µm resolution from crystalline and semi-crystalline materials, e.g. metals, biomaterials, synthetic compounds. more

Neutrons: SANS-1

The small-angle scattering instrument SANS-1 at FRM II was designed and built by Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon in co-operation with Technische Universität München. more

Neutrons: REFSANS

REFSANS has been designed as a reflectometer for measuring both specular reflectivity and evanescing small-angle neutron scattering from solid samples as well as from the air-liquid interface. more

Neutrons: STRESS-SPEC

Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon contribute with their texture competence to the operation of STRESS-SPEC at the FRM II together with the Technischen Universität München (TUM). more
