Coastal Climate and Regional Sea Level Changes

The “Coastal Climate and Regional Sea Level Changes” department explores how the environmental conditions in coastal zones and shelf seas change. The group concentrates on reconstructing past and present conditions as well as developing future scenarios. The aim is to understand and assess long-term changes. The insights we obtain should serve to advance scientific progress and should help decision makers to develop strategies for adaption. We are particularly concerned with changes in regional mean sea level, with extreme events, such as storms, storm surges and sea states as well as cascading events. Together with internal and external partners, we pursue interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, using different modeling approaches and statistical methods.
