Self-Assembly and Functional Nanostructures

The “Self-Assembly and Functional Nanostructures” department develops membrane systems for specific separations, chemical reactions and for sensor platforms. To achieve the desired properties, we implement self-assembling materials, especially block copolymers for developing functional membranes with regular pore structures. The novel design of membranes and nanofibers with tailored properties are our particular focus. We study how such nanostructures form and how their properties can be precisely tailored. The experimental work is in interplay with model-based computer simulations to map the structural formation processes to digital twins.
