The North German Coastal and Climate Office at the Institute of Coastal Systems – Analysis and Modeling is looking for a Research Assistant (m/f/d) for Knowledge Transfer in Coastal Research starting on March 1th, 2025 for a period of 2 years with half of the regular weekly working hours (50 %). The place of employment is Geesthacht.

The position is embedded in the sustainMare research mission of the German Marine Research Alliance (DAM). The seven sustainMare joint projects are funded with the aim of developing and evaluating concepts for the sustainable use of marine resources and the protection of ecosystems. The North German Coastal and Climate Office bundles scientific findings from the seven research networks on various cross-cutting topics such as ecosystem services, coastal protection and offshore energy. This is used to develop actionable information for affected sectors of the economy and the general public. In this context, your task will include the conception and content design of a coastal information platform that will provide users with easy access to socially relevant coastal information. To this end, inventories of the research results from the seven sustainMare joint projects as well as ongoing topic and discourse analyses of media coverage are planned. The various forms of knowledge are brought together in the coastal information platform and contextualised with a view to sustainable coastal development. In addition, the content generated is to be played out tailored on the various communication channels.

Your tasks

The aim of this position is a content design of a coastal information platform that will provide users with easy access to socially relevant coastal information. The tasks of this position include a cross-network inventory of research results in the seven sustainMare projects.
Ongoing topic and discourse analysis of media coverage will be carried out. The comprehensible preparation and summary of scientific findings and other types of knowledge are the basis for the conceptual development of the coastal information platform. Tailored contents will be generated for various communication channels.

Your Profile

  • The successful applicant will have a university degree in environmental science, science journalism or related disciplines e.g. geography, environmental or sustainability communication, environmental education or similar
  • expertise in the field of coastal research and climate change
  • very good written and spoken German and English
  • experience with Esri technologies including ArcGIS Server solutions and the willingness to continue training in this area
  • experience in dealing with customers/​users
  • independence and ability to work in a team
  • ability to work interdisciplinarily or transdisciplinary
