Laser Processing and Structural Assessment
The “Laser Processing and Structural Assessment” department carries out research in the field of laser technology for processing lightweight materials and structures. The overall goal is to fundamentally understand the complex interaction between laser processes, material properties and structural behavior. The focus here lies in increasing the service life of lightweight structures as well as regenerating operationally stressed structures by improving resistance to fatigue, corrosion and wear. This conserves materials and energy and reduces emission of substances that are harmful to the climate. For this purpose, both experimental as well as numerical methods, such as artificial intelligence, modeling and simulations are used. In close cooperation with the industrial sector, we bridge the gap between application-oriented research and technology transfer.
