Research Focus

My research focuses on the transport of Persistant Organic Pollutants (POPs) in the oceans. It is a part of the Project MCMEE (Multi-Compartment-Model for novel organic pollutants: From Emission to Exposure) which aims for the development of a comprehensive numerical model including the emission of, the transport of and the human exposure to different groups of organic pollutants.

My personal effort concentrates on the marine transport mechanisms and the involved processes, as, for example the photolytic decomposition or sedimentation of the considered substances.

I am working with ECOSMO (ECOSystem Model), a threedimensional, fully coupled physical-biogeochemical model, based on the Hamburg Shelf Ocean Model (HAMSOM), which approximates the physical, chemical and biological conditions in the North- and Baltic Sea.
