General Information
The membrane technology is a profitable alternative for many conventional separation processes with clear environmental advantages. Membranes are being used in the industry for the separation of harmful substances from air and water and recovery of vapors from process streams. The technology is often used to reduce environmental pollution and recover valuable products. Membranes are also important components of fuel cells, contributing to a new generation of highly efficient and dean source of energy. The training will be focused on gas and vapour separation for instance for the petrochemical industry, organic liquid separation, fuel cells, membrane reactors and biomaterials. GKSS offers an interdisciplinary training program in membrane science and technology, covering from basic and applied research to material and technological development. Especially the practical aspects will be explored, giving the possibility of learning membrane preparation techniques not only at the laboratory, but also in continuous machines in semi-technical scale, as well as several characterization methods. Also engineering aspects such as process design and module production with practical demonstrations will be covered. - 8 positions for PhD students are open as part of this training site project.
