Research with Neutrons and Synchrotron Radiation
Neutrons and Synchrotron radiation are unique probes for the characterisation of structures in materials. Information is gained which is in general not obtainable otherwise. It includes e.g. the atomic and magnetic structure of the samples, density and size distribution of pores, precipitates and cracks, roughness and correlation of internal interfaces, residual stresses and textures of engineering parts and components as well as structure and function of biomaterials and biological membranes. In most cases the investigations are non-destructive.
