Operational radar and optical mapping in monitoring hydrodynamic, morphodynamic and environmental parameter for coastal management

OROMA

Project timeline
Start:
February 2002
Duration:
36 months
End:
January 2005
General Information
Coastal management has to supervise interacting processes, such as fisheries, industrial and transport policy and to ensure the preservation of the environment. To achieve this task most actual thematic information is needed to assess the status and possible risks within the environment of the coastal zone. OROMA has the objective to present information on the actual status of the coastal bathymetry and related processes as erosion, sediment transport and deposition. OROMA will: 1)develop innovative tools for mapping morphodynamics and related processes on large areas, 2)integrate observation raw data into a common grid, 3)introduce an operational thematic interpretation tool and 4)present actual results in nearly real time as geo-coded thematic maps using electronic network as base for the users to manage coastal protection measures.
