Instrumental Structure Analysis
What properties a membrane possesses and how great its potential for practical application is: this depends critically on its shape and structure. The “Instrumental Structure Analysis” department studies the structure of promising membranes using light, electron and atomic force microscopes. The imaging methods are augmented by state-of-the art analytical methods, such as EDX, EELS and Raman microscopy, which provide information on the membrane’s composition. The image data are assessed using artificial intelligence methods. This provides a comprehensive understanding of how a membrane’s properties are related to its structure as well as the manufacturing process.
