On 17 and 18 November 2016, the young scientists will have the opportunity to network with colleagues in the field of materials science and to present their own research projects. The Centre for High-Performance Materials (ZHM) is the graduate school’s governing body. It serves as a central platform for doctoral students in the field of materials science. The GradShool itself was opened in march 2016.

During the program at the TUHH and the HZG, the doctoral students present their doctoral theses in poster sessions and use the time to get in touch with guests from the industry. Lectures on fundamental principles of materials science and methods as well as laboratory visits round off the event.

"The symposium promotes professional development as well as the networking among the doctoral students," says Dr. Alette Winter, Department of Specialized Didactics of the Engineering Sciences at TUHH.

"For me it is especially interesting how the others approached their projects. I can take some of their ideas with me, "says Yaping Zhang, PhD student at HZG.

About the Materials Science Graduate School:

The graduate school’s governing body, the Centre for High-Performance Materials (ZHM), was founded a year ago as a shared establishment within the Technical University Hamburg (THH) and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG). As a northern German centre for materials science and materials technology, it is distinguished by international projects and cooperation in the area of basic research as well as by industry collaboration through transfer of this basic research into application. The scientists involved at the ZHM are researching new materials that will have applications in a wide range of fields, including medical and energy technology or in automotive engineering.
