Job Description:

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) to join our Biological Characterization Department within the Institute of Metallic Biomaterials. Our institute focuses on the development of innovative metallic materials for medical implants, with a particular emphasis on biocompatibility and biodegradability. This position involves the study of implant materials, especially magnesium and non-degradable metals, in complex cell cultures (co- and triple culture).

Your Tasks:

  • Conduct advanced research on the biological characterization of metallic biomaterials, including in vitro and in vivo studies.
  • Study implant materials in complex cell cultures (co- and triple culture).
  • Develop and optimize experimental protocols for the assessment of biocompatibility and biodegradability.
  • Develop strategies for acquisition and implementation of (molecular)biological data into mathematical approaches.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate biological findings with material science and engineering.
  • Publish research results in high-impact scientific journals and present findings at international conferences.
  • Supervise and mentor PhD and MSc students and research assistants.

Your Profile:

  • Very good or good scientific university education (diploma/master) in biology, (bio)chemistry, or biomaterial science.
  • Experience in gene and protein expression data acquisition and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in complex cell culture (co- and triple culture) and cell imaging.
  • Documentation of team working skills.
  • English level: B2-C2.
  • German level: B1-C2.

Advantageous:

  • Experience with computational methods in biology.
  • Knowledge about biomaterial development and testing.
  • Experience in recruiting and managing research projects and/or project experience from industrial activities.
