Gold medal for Mikhail Zheludkevich

The European Federation of Corrosion (EFC) recognized Prof Mikhail Zheludkevich for his scientific achievements with the Gold Cavallaro Medal of the University of Ferrara. The award is presented every two years on the occasion of EUROCORR, the most important European event for corrosion science. The medal has been presented during the opening ceremony in Paris, in the beginning of September. Zheludkevich, 48 years old, was nominated by two national corrosion societies from Germany and Netherlands for his very important contributions in the field of corrosion and protection of metallic materials.
The Cavallaro Medal serves as a significant recognition for the contributions made at Hereon’s Institute of Surface Science. It honors systematic efforts aimed at enhancing the sustainability of material systems in complex environments through the design of functional surfaces and the extension of their service life. Additionally, the growing focus on digitalization within the field of corrosion science has become a crucial aspect of the institute’s success and its standing in the community.
In response to receiving the award, Prof Zheludkevich stated, “I am deeply honored to receive the Cavallaro Medal. This recognition is a testament to the collaborative achievements of my research teams. I am excited to continue our work in advancing corrosion science for a sustainable future.”
About the Cavallaro Medal: In 1965, the University of Ferrara instituted a gold medal to honour the memory and the work of Prof Leo Cavallaro, founder of the "Aldo Dacco" Study Centre on Corrosion, an annexe of the Institute of Chemistry of the University. The previous laureates Include electrochemists and corrosionists such as Marcel Porbaix, Carl Wagner, and Ulick Evans.
